If you accidentally permanently deleted a file, it's probably best to ask for advice on a support forum to see if you can recover it.

You will be prompted with a window telling you that "the volume is busy", and listing all the open files on the device. Once you close all the files on the device, the device will automatically be safely removed (so you can unplug or eject it).
