To change the desktop background image, launch <menuchoice><guimenu>Applications</guimenu><guisubmenu>Settings</guisubmenu><guimenuitem>Xfce 4 Settings Manager</guimenuitem></menuchoice>, and choose <guimenuitem>Desktop</guimenuitem>. In the lower part, where it says <guimenuitem>Image</guimenuitem>, click on the <guimenuitem>Browse</guimenuitem> icon and choose a different picture.
