To organize the software, Xubuntu repositories are categorized into four groups: <emphasis>Main</emphasis>, <emphasis>Restricted</emphasis>, <emphasis>Universe</emphasis>, and <emphasis>Multiverse</emphasis>. The rationale used to determine which software goes into which category is based on the level of support that software development teams provide for a program and the level of compliance the program has to the <ulink url="http://www.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/philosophy">Free Software Philosophy</ulink>.
Para organizar el software, los repositorios de Xubuntu están categorizados en cuatro grupos: <emphasis>Main</emphasis>, <emphasis>Restricted</emphasis>, <emphasis>Universe</emphasis>, y <emphasis>Multiverse</emphasis>. La lógica utilizada para determinar cuál programa corresponde a qué categoría está basada en el nivel de soporte que el equipo de desarrolladores provee a un programa, y el nivel de cumplimiento que el programa tiene respecto a la <ulink url="http://www.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/philosophy">Filosofía del Software Libre</ulink>.
